Feel Good Spaces: A Guide to Decorating Your Home for Body, Mind, and Spirit, by Washington, DC Interior Designer, Sherry Burton-Ways, provides questions, suggestions, and exercises designed to help you create an environment that brings you peace, joy, balance and comfort, while also providing a refuge from the stresses of the outside world.
“I read Feel Good Spaces so I could be prepared to interview the author for my blogtalk radio show, Mind, Body & Soul Food. I have read various Feng Shui Books, and am familiar with some of the concepts in the book. But I truly loved how Sherry put all the information together. The examples she used were very clear and helpful, as were the beautiful photos. I especially liked the workbook aspect, which allows the reader to do an assessment throughout various points of the book. I discovered new things about the spaces that surround me, and was motivated to immediately get up and make some immediate changes in terms of clutter and color in my home. I also was in the midst of revamping my healing space, so the book provided more useful tools. I definitely am in a feel good space about the book, Feel Good Spaces!”—Tonya Parker, Meditative Morsels
Author Bio: Sherry Burton Ways, a former urban planner, is one of many successful women who took a leap of faith to follow her destiny. In a personal quest to establish a "feel good space" of her own where she could escape from the complexities of a hectic, and often discriminating, work day, Sherry discovered a passion that turned into a new career.
Inspired by her African roots, Sherry created a home using colors resonating on the continent of Africa---reds, neutrals, and yellows. She used these colors as accents throughout her home. She also purchased African fabrics while on travel and from various cultural stores including African accent pieces, such as tribal masks and stools. Sherry decorated her home with African American art images, which invoked positive reminders of her heritage and reinforced her self-esteem. Sherry discovered that her home environment was a peaceful refuge that was bringing out a positive change in her.
Revitalized by a new sense of well-being, which was fostered by her own redecorating efforts, Sherry decided to pursue her passion and return to school to enhance her natural talents in Interior Design. Sherry began her design career by studying Interior Design at the Maryland Institute College of Art. After completion in 2007, Sherry received certifications in Feng Shui through the American Feng Shui Institute and Color Therapy through the International Certified Aromatherapy Institute. She also became an Interior Environment Coach through the DeGangi Group.
Today, Sherry is a highly sought-after Interior Design Expert providing services for high-end residential and commercial clients. In 2011, Sherry was listed as one of the Top 100 Designers in the Washington, D.C. region by Home & Design Magazine, which also featured five of her designs. Sherry is the Principal Designer of her design firm, Kreative Ways & Solutions, LLC in Washington, D.C. She is also an Adjunct Professor in the Interior Design Program at Catonsville Community College, where she teaches Feng Shui.
In September 2012, Sherry released her first book, Feel Good Spaces: A Guide to Decorating Your Home for Body, Mind, and Spirit." The book, which skillfully explains how environments are an extension of the soul, provides vibrant photos, client case studies, and do-it-yourself exercises to help readers create their own feel-good environments---at home or office.
